So, Winnipeg Jets General Manager Kevin Cheveldayoff and estranged defenceman Jacob Trouba’s agent Kurt Overhardt apparently had one of the most talked about stairwell encounters since Kevin McAllister met the wet bandits on the stairs in Home Alone.
Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman said the two chatted recently, with another NHL insider saying Chevy and Overhardt have had a chat about once a week on the status of the situation.

Is Ondrej Pavelec’s NHL career nearing end?
Demotion from the Jets could be the end
After years of mediocre results on a mediocre team, Ondrej Pavelec paid a steep price on Monday as the Winnipeg Jets made the rumour official. The franchise number one goalie since relocating to Winnipeg was being sent down to the Manitoba Moose.

This is Josh Morrissey’s time
Young blueliner will get his best shot yet to make NHL club
The Winnipeg Jets have been hitting some home runs in the first round of the NHL entry draft since their first-ever pick left fans and others around the NHL surprised and a little perplexed when they announced Mark Scheifele back in 2011, rather than Sean Couturier who had speculated at one point as a number one overall pick.

Training camp has arrived across NHL
Training camps open; intriguing questions in Winnipeg
It’s the day that many hockey fans have been eagerly anticipating. On Thursday, NHL training camps opened, and we are that much closer to the 2016-17 NHL season.
Sure, we were just treated to rookie tournaments around the league (including the Jets youngsters in Penticton) and we’ve had the tremendous World Cup of Hockey to satiate our appetites, but both are just teasers for the main event.
In Winnipeg, the Jets are coming into their most intriguing camp since their whirlwind move from Atlanta to Winnipeg five years ago.

It was always Wheeler
Jets make the best choice available for new captain
There was talk of Dustin Byfuglien. And rightfully so, there is very little argument amongst those in the know that the Winnipeg Jets are Byfuglien’s team. He is the guy this team looks to in and outside the dressing room. But Dustin Byfuglien as captain just wouldn’t be the right fit, and as much as he says the role would be an honour, he likely wasn’t thrilled about the idea of wearing the C on his jersey.

Seven weeks and counting…
A lot to be optimistic about, but Trouba deal a huge question mark
After arguably the most important offseason in the short history of the reincarnated Winnipeg Jets, answers will start to flow on Oct. 13 at MTS Centre.
Most important? Thanks to a lottery ball, the Jets have a potential pure goal scorer for the first time since moving to Winnipeg. They also locked up the player they expect to be the franchise’s number one centre for years to come, and hopefully have gotten Jacob Trouba inked to either a bridge deal or a long-term mega deal.

Keep expectations of Patrik Laine in line, eh?!
Young Finn needs time to adapt to NHL
There hasn’t been a buzz around a Winnipeg Jets draft pick like this year since the old Jets picked a skinny young kid from the Cornwall Royals named Dale Hawerchuk first overall 35 years ago.
And rightfully so. Few players come with the kind of pedigree and list of accomplishments that Patrik Laine lugs with him from Finland. He just enjoyed a hockey season that is almost unparalleled by previous draft choices, including MVP performances in the Finnish Elite League vs men and at the World Championships against some of the best men in the world.
